UNITE LE 7340 Branch Secretary and Cambs Area Activists Committee Chair
Chris is a strong, principled Trade Union and Socialist candidate who will definitely promote Jeremy Corbyn’s policies. He has a very strong sense of social and moral justice and is always at the heart of campaigns whether it be on housing, zero hours contracts or the NHS.
Chris will always find a way forward to the advantage of those who put their trust in him, whether it’s politics, trade union or in his voluntary work, he is a tireless campaigner and gets results
He has morals and stands by what he believes in and is always willing to help everyone. His experience and political effectiveness would be available to Northampton South Labour Party from day one and he will be a great Member of Parliament representing the many not just a few.
I write this endorsement based on my personal experience working and campaigning alongside Chris over many years.
Chair SE Cambs Campaign Team
Former Regional Organiser
I’ve known Chris since he first joined the Labour Party. Within weeks of joining he was out on the stump campaigning.
After attending training courses it became apparent to him that to have a red gazebo stall bedecked with Labour banners attracted even more people to listen to what was being said. So Chris sourced a local red gazebo supplier. Not only did he negotiate a good price for the purchase of his CLPs’ gazebo but he negotiated the same price for any CLP across the Eastern Region who wanted one. A truly Socialist act. All this within eight months of joining the Party!
As a result of his successful local campaigning he was nominated for and elected to the East of England Regional Board. Chris used this opportunity to share his campaigning skills and was always on hand to visit other CLPs to share his knowledge, encouraging new members to become active in the Party.
Chris is in my opinion a “Glass-Half-Full” person, no challenge is unsurmountable. Like the time Ed Miliband was visiting a factory in his constituency. Just an hour before the event started Ed’s staff wanted 50 chairs for member’s to sit on. Chris sourced the chairs from a community centre and a van delivered them to the venue within 45 minutes. To me this demonstrated his:
• “Can-Do” attitude,
• Party loyalty.
All skills, as you will appreciate, we want in our Parliamentary Candidates.
Cllr Dave Baigent FIFire E. FHEA. BA Hons. PhD.
Cambridge City Councillor
Former Police & Crime Commissioner Candidate Cambs 2016
I find Chris York to be a hard working and loyal member of the Labour Party.
He was a key member of my team North of the County during my PCC Campaign delivering results!
He will make a great candidate at any level and will campaign with the utmost enthusiasm to win.
Chairperson Yaxley Partnership
Trustee The Young People’s Counselling Service
Our organisation represents a diverse collection of organisations, working in areas ranging from mental health for the young to public safety and heritage. We first had the pleasure of meeting Chris in 2016 at a very pivotal point in the evolution of our organisation, and his support and encouragement has been crucial in us realising our potential.
Where support was difficult to find, Chris proactively reached out to us, attending our meetings and working for us tirelessly behind the scenes. He has enabled us to open a heritage centre by not only identifying a location but working to make it fit for purpose. He has been instrumental in helping us to deploy public defibrillators and has supported our campaign to offer free counselling for young people.
Perhaps what is most impressive about Chris is that he always goes the extra mile; whether that is supporting the vulnerable or lobbying for political support for local projects. You might find him out in the cold distributing food to the homeless or rolling up his sleeves to get things done in the community. He is someone who puts his money where his mouth is. For this our organisation will be eternally grateful.
Corby & East Northants CLP, GMB Officer
Having known and worked with Chris from his membership in the Labour Party and his trade union membership, I can say you will not get a harder and committed socialist than him. He works tirelessly for the values of The Labour Party and the less privileged in society. He is a great organiser on canvassing and fund raising. Chris also helps many worthy charities including the homeless. He also gets involved at all levels of grassroots passing his knowledge on to others. I would have no hesitation in recommending Chris to be a Labour MP.
Marie Ferguson Smith
Eastern Region Labour Board Member
Former Secretary Cambs County LCF
“Chris York is a seasoned and very experienced Labour campaigner and was elected and served on his local council in an opposition dominated area. I have known Chris for well over 10 years and worked with him on a number of committees and panels. He worked tirelessly for Mental Health, feels passionately about injustice and inequality and never wavered from his fundamental Labour principles.
Even when our political views differed we remained and continue to be good comrades and friends.
I wish Chris every success for the future.”
